Father’s Day! How blessed am I to have a dad who is so wonderful? He loves so BIG, so selflessly, and so non-stop! I am so grateful that I have had such a hero for a dad.

But, as fantastic as my dad is, his love is nothing compared to the love of my Heavenly Father. Regardless of what kind of earthly dad you have, had, or don’t have, how amazing is it that the God of the universe, the God who created everything, calls Himself our Father?! Wow. When I sit in that, it humbles me and blows me away. The King of kings and the Lord of lords calls me His daughter, and He sacrificed His only Son to die in my place so that I can spend eternity with Him. Don’t speed read past that—sit in it. He calls me His, and He sent Jesus to pay my price

I John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are.”

In Deuteronomy, the author is speaking about God’s love for Jacob, and he writes, “in a desert land, He found him, in a barren and howling waste.  He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of His eye” (32:10). Has God ever found you in a wasteland?  Has He cared for you and comforted you?  Do you believe that you are the apple of your Heavenly Father’s eye? Matthew tells us that God, our Father, knows our needs before we even ask Him.  Again, when I sit in that, I am overwhelmed.

Don’t let your view of your earthly father blur, falsify, or distort who your Heavenly Father is. Even if you have a great earthly father, as I do, don’t let your view of him or how he loves you distort God’s abundant love for you. To Him, you are more valuable than the birds. He does not want you to be lost. He wants to lavish His love on you, and He wants to spend eternity with you. Rest in those truths today.
